During Small Charity Week, we celebrate the inspiring grass-roots voluntary organisations that work to transform lives for people in Islington. Each year, hundreds of smaller organisations are supported through Islington Council's Community Chest and the Local Initiatives Fund, and this evening event is a chance to bring everyone together to celebrate Islington's diverse and active community.
The event took place on Monday 18th June at Islington Assembly Hall, Upper Street, London, N1 2UD. Updates on the event, including photos and videos, will be uploaded this week!
We recognise the value that smaller organisations can bring to their communities, working in innovative ways to reach people of all walks of life. You can read our series on some amazing projects supported by Islington Council's Community Chest here.
At the event, you can learn more about local initiatives that are helping to put the community at the centre of Islington life, including:
- the estate-based Good Neighbours Scheme and how small local community groups support and compliment this work.
- the opportunity to raise awareness of the work you do by introducing yourself to your local Councillors.
- Voluntary Action Islington will talk about how it can support your organisation, including through the launch of its new volunteering database.
- Quaker Social Action will be on hand to tell you about how you can be involved with its new Get Set Financial Inclusion project, for families in Islington.
There will be performances and art exibitions by local community organisations and artists and plenty of food and refreshments – come and celebrate your local community!
