Gillian Tong has been a member of the Foundation’s Board of Governors since 2016. She is co-Vice Chair of the Foundation, and is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and the Islington Council Community Chest panel.
In early 2019 we spoke with Gillian about her work with the Foundation
What is your role at Cripplegate Foundation and what motivated you to get involved?
I am co-Vice Chair of Cripplegate Foundation, and was originally an independent member of the Foundation’s Finance and General Purpose Committee from 2014. Having worked on sustainability and development issues on a global scale, I wanted to get involved in my own community which I care deeply about.
Tell us a bit about your past experience.
I’ve focused on creating transformation and bringing stakeholders together, working with major companies, NGOs, charities and governments over the last 30 years. One of my highlights was representing the UK government in world forestry negotiations in Vietnam and Guyana. I have also loved creating individual change with people and charities to help them achieve their aims.
What have you enjoyed most during your time here?
I have lived and worked in and around the Borough and Cripplegate Ward for nearly 30 years. Some of my warmest memories feature the diverse community of parents and children – facing a variety of daily challenges – at my son’s primary school and the shared walk home through New River Green.
