Grants for residents

Cripplegate Foundation provides grants to Islington residents living on a low income. In 2009 we made over 700 grants to individuals for almost £234,000. This includes grants made on behalf of St Sepulchre (Finsbury) United Charities and Richard Cloudesley’s Charity.

Our Grants Officer, an experienced welfare rights adviser, also ensures that applicants receive the correct state benefits and services. Applicants are visited at home. Referrals are made to local services such as Children’s Centres, training projects, counselling or advice services.

We give grants on behalf of:

St Sepulchre (Finsbury) United Charities

This provides financial help to people facing hardship who are:

  • over the age of 45 years and
  • live in the old London Borough of Finsbury.

Apply on the Cripplegate Foundation Grants for Residents application form.

Richard Cloudesley’s Charity

A grants programme for those affected by illness or disability who are living on benefits or a low income.

See the Richard Cloudesley’s Charity pages for details about the programme and how to apply.

What kind of grants are made

Grants of up to £500 can be made for:

  • Essential household items and furniture
  • Electrical goods such as cookers, fridges and washing machines
  • Aids and adaptations for people with disabilities
  • Start-up packages for newly housed homeless people
  • Respite breaks (for those who have not had a respite break for five years).

This list is not exhaustive and we can be flexible about the items grants are made towards – if the item or service you wish to apply for a grant towards is not on this list, please contact us to discuss your application. We will only consider one-off needs, and will not make grants that would replace statutory funding.
