Frequently asked questions What will the Foundation fund? We can fund revenue and capital and will consider core costs as well as project funding How much can we apply for? There is no limit for applications. The following grants were agreed in 2007:
Will the Foundation only fund organisations working in its Area of benefit? Yes. Applications can only be considered for the main grants programme from organisations working in the Cripplegate area. However the Islington Community Chest is available for groups working anywhere in Islington. We are a national/ London wide organisation and we work in Islington. Can we apply for a grant? Yes if numbers are high enough. You should have at least 10% of your users in south Islington. However this is not a guarantee of funding. It will depend on the strength of your application and the total numbers of users of the organisation/project. Can you tell me the postcodes of the Cripplegate area of benefit. It is best to look at the map of the area, as it does not equate to postcodes or ward boundaries. It covers all of EC1, some of WC1 and some of N1. Our map shows the area. Do you only give grants to registered charities? No, but your organisation should have its own constitution and management committee, provide accounts and be offering a local service. Can an organisation have more than one grant at a time? The Foundation usually provides one grant at a time. It may consider an additional grant if there is a crisis. It would also consider an additional capital grant. You have already funded our organisation. Can we come back for another grant for the same purpose? Yes. We would need evidence of the effectiveness of the work and reasons why you wished to reapply. The Foundation has been supporting some organisations for many years. I want a grant to work with schools in the area. How do I apply for funding? You should initially approach the schools to see whether they are interested in working with you. If they are, schools will have to apply to Cripplegate Foundation towards the cost of the project. Applications are then submitted to the Grants Committee which meets 4 times a year. How are decisions made? All applicants are visited and the application is discussed in detail before it is submitted to Governors for a decision on funding. Decisions are based on the strength of the application. This includes whether the organisation/project is providing a local service and meets one of the Foundation's priorities. It normally takes 3 months for your application to be assessed, but we cannot guarantee that your application will go to a particular meeting. If a grant is agreed, what monitoring information will we be expected to provide? All organisations are expected to provide an annual written monitoring report on their work. The Foundation may ask for more frequent reports or impose additional conditions of funding. Your project will be visited by Foundation staff. What happens if the application is turned down? We will write to you and let you know why the application was refused. If your application is refused, you must wait a year before applying again for a grant. Is there an appeals procedure? You cannot appeal against Governors' decisions about whether or not to make a grant. The Foundation will consider and respond to complaints concerning:
