How to apply:
Richard Cloudesley's Charity

We administer a programme of individual grants on behalf of Richard Cloudesley’s Charity

Grants are available to:
  • those affected by illness or disability who are living on benefits or a low income and
  • live in the Ancient Parish of Islington. This is roughly the present London Borough of Islington but excluding any area south of Chapel Market and City Road. Click here for a map

We can offer grants of up to £500 for a variety of needs such as essential household items, basic electrical goods and white goods, disability aids and equipment, and start-up packages for newly housed homeless people. However we cannot make grants for educational purposes or to pay off debts.

We will visit individuals who apply on their own behalf to discuss their application personally. We can also provide applicants with advice on benefits and access to other services.

Payment of grants is not normally made to individuals directly but through suppliers such as Comet or Argos.

Applications for grants should be made on an application form which is available here. Before completing the form please read the Notes to Applicants which gives guidance on how to apply.

We deal with all applications in strict confidence and we treat all applicants fairly and equally. Decisions on grant applications are usually made within 2 to 3 weeks.

Grants are given at the discretion of Richard Cloudesley’s Charity. There is no right of appeal.

Richard Cloudesley’s Charity is a charity endowed by the Will of Richard Cloudesley on 13th January 1518, serving churches and medical needs in the Ancient Parish of Islington. It provides assistance to 900 individuals and 130 organisations every year.
